Designed in partnership with Vivian Chou, Xenia Capcan, and Christine Ngo, this product was made for DES 210 Marks & Symbols and was my first experience with type design. We were given roughly 10 weeks to go through the entire design process.
Eagleson is inspired by a hand-painted sign outside of Eagleson Hall at the University of Washington. This collegiate gothic building began construction in 1922 and gained landmark status in 2019. The building was named after a former University of Washington student and “yell king” Jimmy Eagleson. The structure's ornate flairs and somewhat bizarre features have helped composed the character of our typeface. Pictured below is the sign that we used as inspiration for our typeface.
